ACCU was developed with two goals in mind: Flexibility and possibility to operate in off-the-shelf hardware. Using the existing IMCJava API from LSTS and based on the Android operating system it was possbile to rapidly develop a stable application that improved significantly our operation scenarios.


  • Extendable Interface

    ACCU was designed for flexibility. The whole application consists of a group of Panels with navigation being done using a omnipresent bar, being each Panel independent and self-contained. New Panels can be easily developed and integrated using the existing API (Android + ACCU Panel system).

  • Beacon Positioning and Vehicle Location

    Using the GPS of the device and it's orientation it is possible to aid the operator or technician on positioning the beacons in the position sent by the mission supervisor. The same technique is used to visually guide the operator to the whereabouts of the system in case of reduced visibility

  • Tele-Operation

    Multitouch capable remote operation interface that can be used with orientation sensor data (device dependent) to easily operate any vehicle using IMC.

  • Telemetry

    Extensive information about the vehicle and the various systems connected at a given moment is presented in real-time.

  • Description

    Operational requirements:

    • Low battery consumption thorugh a smart usage of resources
    • Low CPU usage (development phone was a ZTE Blade equipped with a 600Mhz ARM CPU)
    • Run on the biggest possible range of devices and Android versions.
    • Presently ACCU run successfully and smoothly in various devices ranging from Android 2.2 (minimum version) up to the most recent version Android 4.2.1, in both Tablet and Smartphone devices.

      In terms of autonomy ACCU can be used for a regular operation day (~8 hours) depending on GPS usage.
